Montfair’s Winter Wonderland

Reflections on the Montfair Lake

The first snow of the season blanketed the Blue Ridge over the weekend and what a sight to behold! Our cottage guests enjoyed pines draped with snow and inspiring reflections on the lake. Winter is a wonderful time to experience quiet and solitude in the mountains. Bring your dog, a good book, your favorite snacks and let all your troubles melt away. Wi-fi in our cottages will allow you to stay connected to the outside world if needed and if it snows, we’ll keep the drive clear so you can venture out to experience some of our favorite local winter traditions.

The Dogwood, Sycamore and Hazelnut Cottages

No visit to Central Virginia is complete without a trip to Charlottesville’s Historic Downtown Mall. Enjoy seven blocks of holiday shopping in locally owned shops and dine in one of the many restaurants that line the bricked streets. Near the historic Jefferson Theater is The C’ville Arts Cooperative featuring art and jewelry from local craftsmen and artists of Virginia. On the west end of the mall stop for lunch or dinner at The Whiskey Jar for the best locally sourced Virginia foods. Free parking is available through January 2 along streets and in the Market Street Parking Garage. The Charlottesville Holiday Market is open on Saturdays in December and is sure to offer that special gift for a loved one this holiday season.

If your plans take you west across the Blue Ridge, make sure to take a detour through picturesque Staunton, VA. Stroll along Beverly Street for holiday shopping with a break for lunch at The Pampered Palate Cafe. Afterwards, travel back in time during a holiday lantern walk at the Frontier Culture Museum. This horse-drawn wagon ride will take you from the Old World to the New World and back featuring plays set in olden days during a holiday winter storm.

Sometimes, however, a cottage retreat begs for simplicity. Put your car keys away and just relax. When booking your cottage stay, inquire about having a bonfire party along the lakefront. We’ll supply the bonfire and scenery, you bring the s’mores! Stop by the markets in White Hall on your drive in and pick up all the supplies you’ll need for a warm and hearty meal cooked in your cottage kitchen. Unpack and leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind.

Enjoy special winter rates on cottage stays now through January 31 as well as our year-round discounts for stays over three days.  We’d love to hear from you in 2018!  (434) 823.5202 or montfair@montfairresortfarm.com
