Outdoor Wedding Weather Tips!

There can be a lot of positives to choosing an outdoor ceremony. For example if you choose to have your ceremony at Montfair Resort Farm on our wedding field you will have breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains behind you! One aspect of an outdoor ceremony that you can never avoid is the weather. There is a chance that it will be a blue sky day with the prefect temperatures but you won’t know for sure until your wedding day is here.  Since weather could be a concern it is good to think through what you would do in certain situations.

  • Rain: Have a rain plan! At Montfair we have a tented deck that you could use as your ceremony site if the weather is really bad. If you are getting married in the summer and an afternoon thunderstorm rolls through you could start with cocktail hour and postpone your ceremony time until after the storm has past. If it is just a drizzle you could have umbrellas for your guests and still get married outside like you had planned. The wedding party could all wear matching rain boots! It would make for cute pictures.
  • Sunny and Hot:  If you know your getting married in the summer you could prepare for the heat and have fun with it. Setting up a cute table at the ceremony site with water, sunscreen and bug spray is never a bad idea on a hot day. Your wedding favor could be a pair of sunglasses! Make sure your guest have access to water during the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception.  You can make your wedding program double as a fan or leave a fan on each seat.  At Montfair we have an air conditioned events lodge that can be used for the reception.  Being able to move inside after the ceremony is nice on those hot wedding days.
  • Cold Weather:  You can have a basket of shawls and blankets up at the ceremony site that guest can use during the ceremony and into the evening if they did not dress warm enough. Think about the food you are planning to serve and choose hot dishes.  Have coffee, hot chocolate and cider available! At Montfair we have a big wood burning fire place in the events lodge and central heat to keep your guests warm. We also have a bonfire pit that your guests can gather around in the evening to make s’mores and drink hot chocolate

These are just a few fun tips to think about when planning your outdoor wedding ceremony. If you are interested in having your wedding at Montfair Resort Farm call Katie Teel our Events Manager today! 434-823-5202
