FAQs: Plan Your Wedding or Event at Montfair

Helpful Information for Your Wedding, Retreat, or Celebration

How many weddings do you host at a time?

Only one! Montfair is a completely private venue — when you book with us, the entire venue is yours. That means your wedding weekend is intimate, relaxed, and distraction-free.

What wedding packages do you offer?

We offer single-day, two-day, and full weekend wedding packages. Our most popular option is the full weekend package, which creates a relaxed, memorable experience for you and your guests. It’s perfect for couples with loved ones traveling in from all over — everyone can stay together on-site, enjoy extra time to connect, and celebrate at a more comfortable pace. Host your welcome party or rehearsal dinner Friday night, your wedding celebration on Saturday, and a farewell brunch on Sunday.

What is the ideal wedding size for the venue?

Our sweet spot is around 100-120 guests — it allows for the most flexibility and the best use of our spaces. We can accommodate up to 200 guests.

What does the reception space include?

Our Event Lodge features a large 13-foot wood-burning fireplace, exposed round beams strung with white twinkle lights, and a wraparound covered deck with views of our peaceful lake. Inside, you’ll find a movable solid oak bar, a large gift table, and a catering-friendly kitchen equipped with two ovens, three commercial-sized refrigerators, and a freezer. Paper lanterns light the paths from the parking area to the Lodge and down to the lake. It is a flexible space to turn into your dream venue!

What’s included with the venue rental?

We provide the space, tables, chairs, and access to our catering kitchen (perfect for Rehearsal dinners or Sunday brunch). Couples bring their own décor, AV equipment, linens, flatware, and glassware.

Can we bring our own alcohol and choose our own caterer?

A: Yes and yes! One of the things our couples love most is the flexibility we offer. You can bring in your own alcohol and select your favorite caterer, food truck, or chef. There are no food or beverage minimums here. Our guests also love using our drink canoe for beverages!

Do you do events outside of weddings?

Yes! We are also a great location for events such as family reunions, celebration of life ceremonies, corporate retreats or offsite meetings, wedding and baby showers, birthday parties, and church retreats.

Is lodging available onsite?

Yes! We have a full-size guest house and 9 lake side cottages for 35-40 guests (54 guest maximum). Our spacious guest house (Beauchamp House) is typically used for the bridal party to stay in and to get ready with plenty of space for hair and makeup. Staying on-site makes your wedding weekend feel like a getaway, no need to rush around or coordinate transportation between venues.

What are the transportation options for guests to Montfair?

Many couples provide shuttle service or encourage guests to carpool. We’re happy to share transportation suggestions that have worked well for past weddings. Our property can accommodate full size tour buses and shuttles and we offer a list of preferred vendors. Our parking lot can accommodate up to 200 guests. Our staff will also be onsite to direct and welcome guests.

What happens if it rains on my event day?

No worries — we’ve got you covered! Most couples move their ceremony to our covered, tented deck attached to the Event Lodge, which keeps you outdoors with beautiful lake views while staying dry. The Lodge itself is also available as a cozy backup option.

Will the Montfair staff be involved on my wedding day?

Yes! Our team is here to support you. Our Wedding & Events Manager Victoria will be onsite the day of your wedding to assist with logistics and coordinate with your planner. An event supervisor will be present during the evening to tend fires, assist vendors, and ensure everything runs smoothly and the venue stays in great shape.

Is there a fee for my ceremony rehearsal?

Rehearsals the day before your wedding are included in the venue rental price.

Does Montfair require event insurance?

Yes, we require event insurance as part of the wedding contract. We recommend WedSafe as a reputable carrier or purchasing through your own homeowner’s insurance.

I have more (or fewer) guests than I originally planned. What happens now?

No problem! Your wedding contract includes three guest count pricing ranges. Your final payment will be based on the range that fits your confirmed guest total. We’ll reach out about 30 days before your wedding to get your final count. Then, about one week before the final payment is due, you’ll receive a reminder letter and updated invoice reflecting your final wedding balance.

Will there be other guests on Montfair’s property during my event?

Unless you’ve reserved our Destination Wedding Weekend Package or booked all on-site lodging, it’s possible that other guests may be staying in our cottages during your event. Montfair will hold all 9 cottages and the Beauchamp House under your name as a courtesy block for guests to make their own reservations until 3 months before your wedding date.

Do we need to hire a wedding coordinator?

Yes, we require couples to work with a wedding coordinator. Having a dedicated planner ensures your day runs smoothly and allows you to fully enjoy your celebration.

Do we have to use your preferred vendors?

Not at all! Our vendor list is simply a helpful resource — you’re welcome to bring in your own vendors.

What time is quiet hour?

Quiet hour begins at 11 PM. However, you’ll have full access to the venue and bonfire area until midnight. At that time, the Event Lodge will be locked.

Are pets allowed at Montfair?

Yes! We’re very pet-friendly. Pets are welcome both indoors and outdoors, and are allowed in our cottages with a small pet fee.

What activities are available for guests during the weekend?

Plenty! Guests can enjoy canoeing, fishing, hiking, biking, pickleball, tennis, and lawn games like cornhole and bocce. There’s something for everyone to relax and enjoy the outdoors.

Are we responsible for setting up and breaking down tables and chairs?

We’ll have ceremony chairs stacked and ready — you or your coordinator can arrange them in your preferred formation. After the ceremony, our team will handle breaking them down. Reception tables and chairs will be provided and set out for you, and you or your caterer will arrange them and handle breakdown by the end of your rental period.
