Our Story
Montfair Resort Farm has been welcoming guests to our family owned and operated resort since the mid 1960s. Our guest house, cottages, event lodge and lake are located on 129 acres of wooded foothills in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Our goal is to offer a comfortable environment for those interested in the recreational resources of a place rich in Virginia cultural heritage. We are a relaxed, pet and eco-friendly favorite for locals, travelers and wedding and event parties looking to enjoy the beautiful surroundings and recreational activities of Albemarle County.
Acknowledging the Land and Its History
Descendants Acknowledgement
We acknowledge the Enslaved People who worked and lived on the surrounding 18th and 19th century parcels, Headquarters, Brightberry, Mountfair and Walnut Level in Browns Cove, Virginia. Montfair Resort Farm was once part of the Brown Family Plantations owned by Bezaleel, Brightberry, and Thomas from Blackwells Hollow to Doylesville, Virginia. The Enslaved People and their families were exploited for their labor and burdened with the legacies of systemic and social discrimination. It is with deep appreciation for the contributions made by the African and African American members of the community who contributed to the creation of this economically vibrant area and to the beauty of the landscape. The Sheridan Family commits to continue our efforts to help remedy the lingering effects of past injustices.
Native American Acknowledgement
We acknowledge the land and waters of Albemarle County, the Piedmont and Blue Ridge Mountain Regions of Virginia were the ancestral territory of the Monacan Nation and Manahoac tribes who were pushed out by colonizers. With gratitude, we respectfully acknowledge the ancestors and present-day elders as the original stewards of these lands.

Montfair Resort Farm offers event space in our beautiful event lodge. We specialize in weddings, corporate events, artist and writers workshops, reunions, private parties, celebration of life events, and educational retreats. The tented, wrap-around deck provides a view of the spring-fed lake and is an ideal spot for cocktails and dancing or activities like yoga and team-building.

As a member of the Virginia Green Travel Alliance and the International Ecotourism Society, Montfair strives to reduce waste and protect the environment using green-friendly practices. We proudly use sustainably-harvested lumber, eco-friendly detergents, comfortable organic mattresses, compact fluorescent light bulbs and Energy Star appliances.
