Spend an idyllic lakeside vacation, remote work retreat or quick getaway in a comfortable clean cottage with excellent Wi-Fi and nature at your fingertips in the heart of the Virginia Blue Ridge mountains. Montfair offers a peaceful and secluded hideaway while still being easily accessible to the nearby small towns and attractions. Each cottage has an outside outlet for EV Charging.

Sunday thru Thursday find a quiet environment ideal for rest, relaxation and recentering. With days filled with bird song, you can explore gorgeous easily accessible walking trails, and use the onsite canoes and bikes for guest use. Fish for Bass and Brim, stargaze at night or set on your own private cottage porch and sip on shade grown organic coffee from Shenandoah Joe Coffee Roasters.

Bird watchers will be thrilled to catch the Spring Bird Migration through June. Birds that one will spot at Montfair include the Great Blue Heron, Night Heron, Green Heron, Belted Kingfisher, Purple Martins, Meadow Larks, Pileated Woodpeckers, Swainson’s Thrush, Brown Thrashers and more.  Many types of Hawks and Owls as well as the Bald Eagle make their home at Montfair. Late Summer will see the Great White Egrets for a few weeks stop over.

Montfair is surrounded by local breweries, cideries, vineyards and wineries that on cool days offer cozy fireplaces and on the warm days the outdoor patios will be inviting. Enjoy each tasting rooms’ unique and beautiful views and sip some of Virginia’s finest wines and spirits.

Stop in at one of the local country stores, Wyant’s Grocery and Piedmont Store.  Both are located four miles from your cottage and both stores offer basic groceries, drinks, sodas, coffee and a yummy homemade sandwiches or hot breakfast biscuits. Piedmont is famous for their tenderloin and egg biscuits, get there early- they sell out fast!

Make sure you save time to explore the Sugar Hollow entrance to Shenandoah National Park, you will discover this gem tucked away in the “holler” by following Sugar Hollow Rd. that follows the Moorman’s River. Gorgeous trails, views and rock formations make the whole family happy. You will find many spring ephemerals blooming in the Shenandoah National Park.

Ten minutes from Montfair discover Wildrock, a local play-scape with beautiful hiking trails for families and all ages. Available on select holidays and regularly on Tuesdays, Fridays (mornings) and Saturdays. 9:30am – noon and 12:30pm to 3:00pm. Go to the Wildrock website to make a reservation. Right next-door find the Patricia Byrom Forest Preserve that has five hundred more acres of hiking trails that cross spring fed mountain streams.

Our small hometown of Crozet is a beautiful scenic 15 minute drive from your cozy cottage. Enjoy a variety of dining options from Sal’s Pizza, the iconic Crozet Pizza, Fardowners, a local pub and Bar Botanical for a roof top vegan plant based menu. Duner’s Restaurant and Restoration fare two great choices for fine dining.

Crozet is also home to a beautiful public library, friendly playground, and the awesome Crozet Creamery offering fresh homemade ice cream. Do you love the arts and shopping? Bluebird and Company is a Bookshop, Jewelry, Gift and Clothing shop all wrapped up in one. Across the street is the Crozet Depot bursting with the talent of numerous local artisans. Find the Barn Swallow Gallery a short ten-minute drive from Crozet that also holds treasures of two local ceramic artists Janice Arone and Mary Anne Burke and other local talented artists.
